1955

Hans-Wilhelm Renkhoff and Karl-Friedrich Wagner founded the company WAREMA in Marktheidenfeld in Lower Franconia. Their starting capital: one product – namely light metal venetian blinds – with five employees and a great deal of motivation, grit and determination.

Hans-Wilhelm Renkhoff, the man

Senator E.h. Dr. h.c. Hans-Wilhelm Renkhoff was a man of action, a pioneering entrepreneurial force in the Federal Republic of Germany and a man with willpower and drive. The founder of WAREMA was characterised by his humour and strong social commitment. These traits made him an important personality in the German post-war era. Renkhoff, who was born in Düsseldorf, significantly contributed to the development and success of the social market economy in the Federal Republic of Germany.

However, his path and rise to company director and exemplary entrepreneur were by no means preordained. On the contrary: after serving in the war, spending time as a prisoner of war and participating in the post-war clean-up, the trained technical designer and former masonry apprentice worked tirelessly and under great hardship to gradually achieve professional success.

1959
Extension of the product range: along with venetian blinds, WAREMA then also produced roller blinds, with aluminium roller shutters following shortly after. The practical prefabricated roller shutter became a best seller.

1960
The initial production facilities in various buildings in the centre of Marktheidenfeld soon became too small. So in 1960, construction was started on the first section of what was to become today's company headquarters. In 1961 the company then moved to the new facilities on the street Äußeren Ring. Since then, hardly a year has passed in which expansions and additions have not been necessary.

1965
WAREMA took part in the first roller shutter trade fair, then called R'65, now “R+T”, the leading fair in the world today for roller shutters, gates and sun shading. To this day WAREMA has remained loyal to this trade fair and has since become one of the largest exhibitors at the Stuttgart-based fair. Many of our products have been awarded the coveted Innovation prize at this industry meeting.

1967
Another product innovation came on the market: the “Super 80” external venetian blind.

1970s

The product range grew even more - new highlights were awnings, vertical louvre blinds and black-out systems. Not all components required for these were available on the market. That's why WAREMA began manufacturing plastic parts and control components, but also many special machines and tools, itself.

1989
In order to be close to specialist partners and customers, WAREMA had a nationwide network of distributors from early on, and after 1989, it was also represented in the new eastern states of Germany. That means that WAREMA can quickly react to market developments and offer the customers comprehensive service and consultation locally.

1991
One of the first companies from the old West Germany to do so, WAREMA set out to look for a location in Saxony after the political transition at the start of the 1990s and founded a production company in Limbach-Oberfrohna – WAREMA Sonnenschutztechnik GmbH. The shortage of labour in the west, the good conditions in the east and the skilled workers available there were all assets for the new location, which still contribute significantly to the company's success to this day.

2001
Angelique Renkhoff-Mücke, the daughter of the company founder, took over the role of Chief Executive Officer of the WAREMA Group and has since continued her father's life's work.

2004
With its core competence as the leading SunLight Manager, WAREMA is conquering ever more of the international market. And so in 2004, WAREMA International GmbH was founded, which today serves customers from 53 countries.

2009
In September 2009 WAREMA Renkhoff Holding AG rebranded itself as a European joint stock company and merged with WAREMA Renkhoff GmbH to form WAREMA Renkhoff SE (Societas Europaea).

2011
Upon acquiring WAREMA Plastic Technology Hungary Kft. in Gyál, Budapest, WAREMA Kunststofftechnik und Maschinenbau GmbH consolidated its position as a supplier of plastic parts for the automotive industry.
